ALPhANOV and Thales UK have been awarded by ITP Partnership (FR-UK Innovation and Technology Partnership) as best collaboration for their project called “solid plastic optics for future low cost proximity fuzing”.

The awarded R&D project aimed at developing Low cost moulded solid plastic optics with novel 3D structures.  For these new generation optics,  internal reflection were used, first to produce well defined conical beam patterns, then to realize efficient optical collector : two main functions required for optical laser telemetry. The use of free-form solid plastic optics, with no air spaces, removes the need for environmental sealing and leads to a more physically robust construction compatible with low cost embed applications.

ITP Partnerships develops novel, exploitable technologies for generation-after-next embed systems. With more than 100 Participants from across the UK and France, the ITP aims to consolidate the Anglo-French technological capabilities.
