ALPhANOV welcomes Philippe Couillard, Prime Minister of Québec

03/07/2015

As part of a meeting on scientific cooperation between Aquitaine Region and Quebec, ALPhANOV welcomes Philippe Couillard, Prime Minister of Quebec.

During the visit, Philippe Couillard, along with Alain Rousset, President of Aquitaine Région, discovers ALPhANOV’s activities on laser micromachining: innovative laser processes for drilling, cutting or surface texturizing for applications in micromechanics, microelectronics, aerospace and health.

The visit is also an opportunity to refresh the links between ALPhANOV and Quebec. Indeed, the creation of ALPhANOV was inspired by the Institut National d’Optique (INO) in Quebec that Alain Rousset discovered in 2004 during a collaborative visit. Since then, ALPhANOV has maintained active collaborations with Quebec.

In 2010/2011, INO seconded one of their Engineers, David Gay, in a full exchange year within ALPhANOV. This Engineer has contributed to the development of common skills in micromachining and preparation of specialty optical fibers for high power lasers.

More recently, in 2014, at the Photonics North Conference in Montreal, ALPhANOV and Aquitaine’s cluster Route des Lasers participated in a large delegation of networking in Quebec organized by the Quebec Photonic Network and its director Mireille JEAN.

Philippe Couillard was received by:

  • Philippe Métivier, President of ALPhANOV and CEO of EOLITE Lasers whose activities are based in Pessac Aquitaine and Montreal in Quebec. ALPhANOV and EOLITE Lasers cooperate in the field of processes for industrial applications.

  • Eric Mottay, Vice President of ALPhANOV and CEO of Amplitude Systèmes whose femtosecond lasers make up a large part of ALPhANOV’s park of lasers.

  • Jean-Pierre Giannini, Vice President of ALPhANOV, President of the competitiveness cluster Route des Lasers and Director of CEA CESTA (Commission for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies) center hosting very large laser facilities of Laser Megajoule (LMJ) and Petal.

  • Benoit Appert-Collin, Director of ALPhANOV.
